The Power of Sound is about the underrated impact of sound and it’s influence on our daily lives.

Few people stop and think about it, but sound always surrounds us, wherever we are. The annoying sound of your alarm clock, or traffic, or noise. The uplifting sound of birds, music or a gentle voice. Iconic sounds like Tarzan’s jungle call, the start up sound of Mac, the two notes of the theme from the movie Jaws. Sound is music, emotion and body. Sound is connected to space and acoustics. But also to you personally, and your character:  the soundtrack of your life. Sound can also hurt us, and heal us.

Cedric Engels (Belgium, 1987) was brought up between vinyl records. So it wasn’t the biggest of surprises that he would go on to form eclectic DJ duo Hermanos Inglesos with his brother Didier, around the turn of the century. To the rhythm of studying Law at Ghent University, things started going in crescendo. As Cedric kept spinning records, the tables turned: from deejay to producer, followed by an album with PIAS and signing with Sony Music. He concluded those college days by specializing in Intellectual Property Law, and with a thesis on Sample minds In The Music Industry.   Next strophe: London. In 2011 Cedric choose the SAE/Middlesex University as his alma mater and enrolled for its course in Sound Engineering. It would consolidate his professional future as a musical one.  Back home, Cedric founded sound agency Roundhouse in Ghent to specialise in sonic branding. Roundhouse became Sonhouse in 2018, designing/composing sound identities for film, TV and brands.  Inspired by his chapter in London and from his professional experience, Cedric became an ambassador of the power of sound. Beside talks and keynotes for i.a. TEDx, OFFF Festival and Vlerick Business School, Cedric underlines his personal mission with this book, for those who will hear him out. Literally.
